Started in 2007 the Charlotte City Lacrosse Championship is brainchild of Charlotte Catholic’s head coach Bo Turner, who in 2006 declared “lacrosse in this city has come a long way…it’s time for a City Championship” within earshot of StickWithUs director Michael Desmond who, with Coach Turner’s consent, has turned the idea into one of the most anticipated lacrosse events of the year.
On April 30, 2007 Charlotte Country Day won the inaugural City Championship defeating Charlotte Catholic by a score of 12-7.
Then in 2008 due a variety if factors the City Championship Final game could not be played, therefore the two finalist Charlotte Country Day and Charlotte Catholic were declared Co-City Champions.
In 2009 more than 2,000 fans watched one of the most exciting games in the Queen City to date as Providence High School defeated Country Day 10-8.
In 2010 State sanctioning of lacrosse in the Public Schools placed a temporary suspension of the City Championship, organizers hope to revisit the idea in 2012.
